Whether it is a cellular, a smartphone or a digital/web robot, here is everything you need to know about its installation.
Note that this procedure is only valid for the latest kapptivate robots. If you have to install a previous version of our robots, please contact our support.
Step 1 - Preparing the installation
- The robot
- A black power cable
- An RJ45 cable
If you have a cellular robot (5G), you should also have:
- 8 antennas
If you have a cellular robot (4G), you should also have:
- 4 antennas
- A SIM card tray ejector tool (not included with the robot)
If you have a smartphone robot, you should also have:
- A USB hub
- A blue USB cable
- A power supply for the hub
We recommend installing the robot in a storage bay for more efficient air flow and accessibility. To do so, simply put the robot in a slot of the storage bay and tighten 2 screws at each side of the robot.
This step is not mandatory for the robot to work. Note that the air enters from the front of the robot and exits from its back.
Step 2 - Connecting the robot
Note that you can also connect the cable to the ports 2 or 3 but it will not work if you connect it to the port 4.
Step 3 - Connecting the antennas (5G cellular robots only)
At the back of the robot you have 4 connectors per modem. You can now connect the antennas to the robot.
To insert a SIM card, simply push it in the SIM slot until you hear a click.
You can repeat these steps for the remaining tray.
Step 4 - Connecting the antennas (4G cellular robots only)
The blue cable is for the GPS and the two red cables are for the 4G connectivity.
At the back of the robot you have 3 connectors per modem. You can now connect the antennas to the robot.
The top row is for the blue cables (🔹) and the bottom 2 rows are for the red cables (🔺).
To insert a SIM card, push the button at the top right corner of a SIM slot with the SIM ejector tool and put the SIM card in the tray.
You can repeat these steps for all the remaining trays.
Step 5 - Connecting the USB hub (smartphone robots only)
Then, connect the other half of the USB cable to the USB port situated at the bottom left corner of the back of the robot.
Note that you can also connect the cable to any other USB port.
You can now connect the power supply to the hub. The hub can be turned on by moving the switch to the left. A red light indicates that the hub is on. 🚨
The hub is now ready to be used, you can connect your smartphones to the available USB ports.
💡 Note that the smartphones will not charge if the robot is not powered on.
Congratulations, the hardware installation is complete! Note that you also need to follow this procedure for the robot to be fully operational : How to install a new kapptivate robot (software part).
